Meet Jared Gopman, MD

Dr. Jared Gopman is an American Board Certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon at The Laufer Institute of Plastic Surgery. Using leading-edge techniques, Dr. Gopman strives to provide patients with exceptional results that reflect his extensive training. Dr. Gopman thinks of his patients as partners on a journey to provide individualized, long-lasting, and consistent results. He is also a warm and approachable doctor who is dedicated to personalized care and natural-looking outcomes.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Dr. Gopman completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, from the Microbiology and Cell Sciences department. He won numerous awards for academic achievement, and graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Dr. Gopman went on to complete his medical degree at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida, where he graduated in the top 5 of his class. His achievements garnered him numerous accolades, including the Department of Surgery Medical Student Achievement Award. During this time, Dr. Gopman conducted research studies in a variety of Plastic Surgery conditions.

Following medical school graduation, Dr. Gopman matched into the highly competitive 6-year integrated Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He received training at five different Mount Sinai locations, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Bronx Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center, and Elmhurst Hospital.  As a senior resident and chief resident, Dr. Gopman twice lead his residency program to victory in the American Society of Plastic Surgery Resident’s Bowl, a head-to-head competition pitting the brightest upcoming minds of Plastic Surgery against each other.

Driven to provide the highest quality of care, Dr. Gopman completed a Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery fellowship in 2023 at the University of Miami and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in South Florida. This fellowship trained Dr. Gopman in hand & wrist surgery, complex arm and leg reconstruction using microsurgical techniques, peripheral nerve surgery, and congenital limb anomalies. This further training worked to compliment Dr. Gopman’s extensive proficiency in Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery.

WELL-ROUNDED TALENTS

Skilled in all types of cosmetic procedures, Dr. Gopman offers facial plastic surgery, cosmetic breast surgery, and body contouring. He is also experienced with reconstructive and hand surgery, enabling him to fully treat patients from “head-to-toe.”  His practice is also further enhanced with injectables and many of the latest technologies in non-invasive medicine. He employs all these tools to guide patients in the right direction to accomplish their individual goals in a safe and efficient manner.

EARLY INTEREST IN BECOMING A SURGEON

Dr. Gopman was born and raised in South Florida. Growing up, he became experienced in procedural medicine by working as a dental assistant in his parents’ Dental office. His interest piqued in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery during medical school when his mother developed breast cancer and underwent reconstructive surgery following a bilateral mastectomy. Dr. Gopman: “The journey of my mother’s reconstructive surgery showed me how important Plastic Surgeons are and the difference they can make in patient’s lives.  Her reconstruction made her feel whole again following her mastectomies, and I knew that I wanted to give back to my patients in the same way.”

RELOCATING TO TAMPA BAY

Dr. Gopman and his family had hoped to return to Tampa Bay upon completion of his residency in New York City. They were drawn to the combination of a bustling city with beautiful landscapes and activities offered by the sunny weather because it would provide the well-rounded quality of life that he and his family always desired. Additionally, Dr. Gopman’s wife, Cher (Hubsher) Gopman, grew up in the Tampa Bay area and always dreamed of returning home.  Dr. Gopman was thrilled to make both their dreams come true by joining The Laufer Institute of Plastic Surgery as the practice’s goals, morals, and excellence align with his intentions.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

In his free time, Dr. Gopman likes to run, swim, bike, play tennis, cook, try new vegan restaurants, play ukulele, and cheer on the Tampa Bay Lightning.  In 2019 Dr. Gopman and his wife welcomed their daughter into their lives. Their journey through pregnancy and living away from family in NYC has been chronicled in the hit TLC television show “Smothered”, in which they starred 4 seasons. Dr. Gopman and his family recently moved to a small farm in the Tampa Bay area and are loving adopting and raising animals in their backyard.
