The purpose of body contouring surgery is to restore attractive proportions and contours to the body for both men and women. Genetics, weight fluctuation, pregnancy, and aging are all factors that can cause your body to sag, droop, and accumulate unwanted fat over time. Many individuals find that, despite following a diet and fitness regimen, certain areas of the body retain stubborn fatty deposits, while no amount of dieting or exercise can return a firmness and elasticity to skin that is loose and sagging.
During a body contouring procedure, our board-certified plastic surgeons — Hani Rayess, MD, Leonard Tachmes, MD, and Jared Gopman, MD — use advanced techniques such as liposuction, skin excision, and lifting and tightening procedures to restore a smoother, more sculpted appearance. Patients often experience not only physical improvements — such as better body proportions and more flattering clothing fit — but also a renewed sense of confidence and self-esteem.
Body contouring to improve the shape and proportions of the hips, waist, buttocks and thighs may include one or more of the following procedures: liposuction, lower body lift, tummy tuck / abdominoplasty, thigh lift, buttocks lift, and buttocks augmentation.
Many patients choose to combine body contouring with other procedures such as breast enhancement surgery or stem-cell enriched fat grafting, a procedure in which fat that has been liposuctioned from a patient’s own body is used to add volume to the face, lips, or buttocks. In many cases, multiple procedures can be combined in a single operation.
In a body contouring procedure, our surgeons utilize a combination of specialized techniques to resculpt the body. Liposuction is used to remove excess fat and enhance natural contours. To improve sagging areas and loose skin, our physicians remove excess tissue and tighten the underlying structures to achieve a smoother, lifted appearance.
The length of surgery varies depending on the number and complexity of procedures performed, as well as the individual’s overall physical condition. Operations may last anywhere from one to five hours or more.

Following your procedure, our doctors may recommend an overnight stay in one of our fully equipped recovery suites, where you’ll receive attentive care from our highly trained nursing staff. For patients living within 30 miles of our facility, a plastic surgery recovery nurse may be arranged for an in-home visit to monitor your healing, assist with medications, change dressings, and provide updates directly to your surgeon.
To minimize swelling and help your body conform to its new contours, you may be fitted with a compression garment to be worn for approximately four weeks. In some cases, our physicians may also place small drain tubes under the skin to collect excess fluid. Drain tubes and sutures are typically removed within one to two weeks.
Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the procedure — generally 5–7 days for liposuction and up to two weeks for more comprehensive body-lifting procedures. The results of body contouring are typically long-lasting when a stable weight and healthy lifestyle are maintained.
